Help help, I'm having skin problems all over the place at the moment. I've never really had any issues before but the past couple weeks, it's all been going wrong with me. I can't think of anything that I've change but I've been having really dry skin on my scalp lately. One of the other managers at work mentioned it yesterday saying he has never seen it on me before, I almost cried and was like I KNOW ITS A RECENT PROBLEM I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO
Somebody at work told me to put baby oil on my hair and sleep with it in over night, which I did last night, I've just washed it out now and I'm going to dry it.
Do you have any TIPZZZ?

I'd probably refrain from using heat products on it as it's essentially dry skin - maybe think about your shampoo/conditioner and get something for dandruff for a little while until things improve. I'd definitely say the oil should help too. It may also be a mixture of the climate at the moment with it being cold etc. Think about how often you wash your hair too, just give your scalp a bit of a break and hopefully it'll get better I've had a flaky scalp in the past and it's usually appears simultaneously like you just said but I just think of it as a way that my hair is trying to tell me something and I'm over styling or over washing and need to give it a break, so I will get a gentle shampoo and not use heating products on it - which usually does the trick!

I've really cut down on washing my hair, I do it twice a week now. I washed it Sunday morning, this morning and I'll was it again on Sunday morning, unfortunately I have to use heat otherwise it's out of control, I don't mind so much if I'm sat around but I can't go to work like that, but washing less means I use less heat.
I was told to stay away from the anti dandruff shampoos because they can be to strong, if it doesn't get better I'm going to give it a go though!

Check with your pharmacist and see if they can refer something. The baby oil should help as it happened to my friend and that's what her GP told her and it worked. Give it som time and hopefully it should be fine.
when you are washing your hair, try to use Luke warm water, hot water tends to wash away our oils and make the scalp dry.

Thanks for the tips! The baby oil seems to have helped, I might see if I can make it a weekly thing to see if it makes a difference at all.
I'll try the Luke warm water too.

If it's been bleeding deffo pop to the doctors! I was going to say since moving to the city my scalp has been very dry indeed and didn't know if you've had any change in climate (been on holiday or something) but it mustn't be that...
I wash my hair with luke warm water and corresponding shampoo as well as not over washing it but no change.
I hope you get it sorted!

I've got this medicated shampoo that I use from the pharmacy, it seems to have helped! I'm just scared it will start up again when I stop using it.

Maybe try using the medicated shampoo every other wash and seeing how that goes? My mum uses organic shampoos from the health shop which don't have SLS's and other stuff in as she had a really itchy scalp, could be worth trying to see if they help with the flakey scalp.

I've been struggling with this same problem, minus the bleeding scalp. It's quite bad at the moment. I was also warned of anti-dandruff shampoos and after trying head'n'shoulders for a while I now know why - they are far too strong and just damage your hair! I'll have to try this baby oil thing though and maybe the organic shampoos

The baby oil thing is good but can leave you hair greasy if you don't wash it out properly.
I've bought some coconut oil as I've heard that's good for scalps and hair! I'll let you know how it goes.
Beth - it's a great idea to use it every other day. I'll try it!

I've been getting the same problem minus the bleeding, I was wondering if it's due to the change in weather? I had dandruff and a flaky scalp as a kid but it went away for double digit years - no idea why it's starting up again! Someone did say I should try investing in a better brush? Sarah

It could be a change in weather, I guess!
The coconut oil worked well, only thing it, with same as the baby oil, it's hard to wash out completely! I'm going to look into making some hair masks with it.

Do you use a shampoo with sulfates in? (sodium laurethh sulfate and and sodium lauyrl sulphate - often abbreviated to SLS or SLES) I used to have 'dandruff' for years and I went sulfate free to help my curls but discovered it really helped my itchy flaky scalp too! it might be worth a try, you can get more sulfate free shampoos now, holland and barret do some and you can get some in superdrug and boots. Aloe vera gel is nice and soothing on an itchy scalp too and it's good for your hair too. I also sometimes use water with a few drops of tea tree oil in; I just fill the sink up with cold water, put a few drops of tea tree in and massage the water into my scalp. The water's nice and cooling and the tea tree is anti septic and can help fight dandruff.
